And his balls. And his eyes. And you could get Harry Dean Stanton to play Vincent Price and have the two of them goofing on the set of Tales of Terror.

Ever read Stephen Youngkin's The Lost One: A Life of Peter Lorre? It's terrific.JBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00319721431296639419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746189833925666296.post-87759564290908973382012-07-26T09:40:44.692-04:002012-07-26T09:40:44.692-04:00Somehow even the fact that I was prepared for a Gu...Somehow even the fact that I was prepared for a Guy Maddin rollercoaster ride (and plenty of shots of Louis Nagin's bag), *and* the fact that I'd just seen "Cowards Bend the Knee," did not prepare me for "Keyhole."

Random thought: is it just me, or does Nagin have an aged Peter Lorre beauty? Those eyes.Feminemahttp://feminema.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746189833925666296.post-30773943940241406392012-04-24T10:48:57.600-04:002012-04-24T10:48:57.600-04:00Have you ever been to Winnipeg? It has indeed left the stain of disappointment on many who have entered it, even if only while passing through via the mighty Trans-Canada Highway. Though I myself had a pretty great time there one summer years ago, doing some theatre. In a place like that the locals become so ecstatic for summer, which last like six weeks or something, that they can be flamboyantly generous and gregarious and even delirious. So if you go to Winnipeg go in summer... The problem is that if you go to Winnipeg in the summer you're not really going to Winnipeg. The real Winnipeg is on holidays from late June to mid-August.

Dido sounds an awful lot like Fido, no? How about Diddly? I think I could only be a Dids if I had been born in 1920 in Queens and had one of those raspy smoker's coughs.

How much did I love My Winnipeg? I recommend it extravagantly, often to people who don't have the humor for it.

This is my favorite part of the Maddin/My Winnipeg interview:

JB: I realize of course that you do escape Winnipeg on a regular basis, but at this point, would you say that it’ll likely remain your permanent residence for the rest of your life?

GM: [Sighs] Yeah, probably. [Sighs again] Might as well just buy the burial plot now. It’s true that whenever I’m in another city I’m happy there for a month, but then I start missing home. And then as soon as I go home it’s… disappointing somehow. I don’t know…

Sing it, Guy. I've been there.Feminemahttp://feminema.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746189833925666296.post-91498522239370702462012-04-20T13:21:51.064-04:002012-04-20T13:21:51.064-04:00Thanks, Dids! My Winnipeg is very special Maddin to hold up other Maddins against, but I'm confident you'll find much to love in Keyhole. Especially the last five minutes.

If you haven't already you should check out the interview I did with Guy for My Winnipeg. Since I still can't modify my stupid Index (Blogger, what's the deal?!), which would probably help for easy finding, I'll just drop the link right here:

http://thephantomcountry.blogspot.ca/2008/08/winnipeg-winnipeg-winnipeg-guy-maddin.htmlJBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00319721431296639419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746189833925666296.post-5604908539002090742012-04-20T09:24:13.930-04:002012-04-20T09:24:13.930-04:00Just saw the trailer for this and got very excited...Just saw the trailer for this and got very excited.
